Calligraphy is an art form and there are many apps available to write some. Also if you are interested you can learn how to write it yourself. But learning the process might take a while and there are times you just need things to work. For those situations, here we will talk about the best calligraphy apps you can use which are easy to use and produce some great results. Also, I tried to add applications on the list which are available on both Android and iOS.
10 Best Calligraphy Apps For Android And iOS
Starting off the list, we have Phonto. We have already talked about it on our best font style apps list and it comes with more than 200 fonts on Android and 400 on iOS. If needed you can add more from their collection. Although all the fonts are not calligraphy related, there is a lot to choose from anyway. You can also customize the text with color, shadow, spacing etc.
Not only texts, but you can also add images behind it to make it more interesting. Although most of the feature of this app is free, to unlock the full potential and to get rid of the advertisements, you will need to spend $0.99 as an in-app purchase.
2. Calligraphy Art
Next on the list, we have Calligraphy Art, which is available on iOS devices as of now. With this app, you can write any calligraphy easily and also learn how to do it in real life when you have time. The app replicates the strokes of the pen in real life, like angle, thickness and colors. Another great feature is not only English but also you can write in Urdu, Hindi and Chinese.
The app is developed mainly for iPad and keeping pen pressure in mind. So with fingers, it will provide you with the best outcome possible. The only set back is the tool is not free, and it costs $2.99. So I would suggest if you are really serious about Calligraphy, then you can buy it.
3. Stylish Name Maker
Another Calligraphy related app is Stylish Name Maker. With it, you can create some amazing art work and add images with it. The text can also be customized with colors and 3D effects. The application is available on the Google Play Store only for now.
The best part is the app is totally free to use, although you will see some advertisements here and there. Other than texts you can add many extra clip arts like heart, fire, animals etc to take your art to the next level.
4. Calligraphy & Lettering
If you are interested in the text in calligraphy fonts, Calligraphy & Lettering is the best option. Do note the app is only available for iOS and work with iMessage. It works like a sticker and to use it you have press icon ‘hi’ icon. Then you have to select the sticker, that is all.
Sadly the program is not free and costs $0.99 on the Apple App Store. There is also an option to animate the texts. To do that you have to press and hold the sticker you want to use for two seconds and then you will get effects like slam, loud, gentle or invisible ink.
Then we have Fonty where you can create your own font. This is a powerful app where you can tinker with any font you want to give it a personal touch or create a completely new font from scratch. It gives complete customization options and guidelines to help you out, so you can create your masterpiece. This application is available on Android.
When it comes to calligraphy, you can create those here to use on any project or to print it out. It comes with many types of brushes so create calligraphy is much easier than expected. For now, it supports 15 languages and alphabets but the developers are trying hard to add more options.

This tool is also available on Android and supported by advertisements. I will not say the user interface is one of the best in class, but it does the job pretty well. The main reason to include this app on the list is all of their font collection is calligraphy related.
8. Cool Fancy Text Generator
I am sure you have seen some fancy and decorated bio on social media. Ever wondered you can do that too? Cool Fancy Text Generator is your answer. All you have to do is write whatever you want, and the app will provide you with a various decorated version of that, which includes calligraphy.

Although it is not sensitive to pen pressure, you can check your accuracy if you are connected to the internet. The user interface is also materialized and provides a moderate way to start calligraphy. If you are a moderate typographer, this app will not help that much, to be honest.
Finally we have Flourish which is another app with a similar approach as Stylograph. This is a digital calligraphy app for writing flourishing letters on Android phones and tablets. To start with, you get 52 tracing letters (lower and upper case alphabet), plus our original, hand-drawn ‘Calligrams’ and practice writing over the worksheets.
After writing you can save your letterforms and calligraphy masterpieces to the gallery. Flourish is free to download but to unlock the full potential there is an in-app purchase option. The best part is the tool is available on both Android and iOS.
There are many other apps which provide similar functionality, but after trying a lot of them, these are the best apps which I found useful. You can create many types of design with the apps or learn how to manually do typography.
